Painting & Decorating - L1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating

This is a full time course covering one year. The level 1 Diploma Painting & Decorating is available at the Smallford Campus. This course is designed for those learners with no previous Painting knowledge or training. The aim of the course is to put in place all the basic rudimentary skills and knowledge that is required to become a good Painter. The qualification consists of 6 units: 3 core unite relating to the construction industry and 3 trade Units relating to Painting & Decorating. All knowledge (Theory) is unit tested and supported with Assignments. On completion of the practical assessments there is a synoptic test to be passed.

What are the Course Requirements?

An interest in becoming a skilled Painter in the construction industry. An aptitude for practical/theory skills and a good work ethic. Three GCSEs at grade D/E or above. Satisfactory completion of level 1 multi-trades course showing continual improvement. Initial assessment BKSB showing entry 3 to level 1 literacy and numeracy. At least 85% out 100% attendance is required to achieve course with awarding body point scheme in place to ensure progress.

Course Content - What will I learn?

you will learn about the tools you use as a Painter (hand/power) and how to use them. The materials, the techniques, health & safety, the construction industry in general & employment rights(employee & employer).To gain the diploma the candidates must be successful in achieving all units and passing the synoptic practical test.They must also pass the online Gola test, a separate knowledge test set and assessed by CAA (Constructions award Alliance)the awarding body.

How will I be assessed?

Your technical certificate will be assessed by unit tests and a gola test at the end of the programme. There will also be a synoptic phase test for the practical component of the technical certificate. During the programme you will be formatively assessed on work produced,practical/theory, and there for the assessment process is ongoing at all times.

Course Additionality

It is a necessary for learners to achieve a minimum of 85% percent attendance in order to pass with awarding body points scheme in place to ensure progress. All learners are required to complete Entry Level 3 or Level 1/2 English/Maths Functional skills qualifications. You will also have to complete a Personal social developemnt qualificationas part of your programme.

What Next

On full completion of the level 1 course you will be guided and advised onto either a level 2 Painting & Decorating course. skills, ability, level of achievement and general performance/attendance are considered on progression. During this course all learners are expected to be seeking employment in the industry enabling them to be transferred onto the apprenticeship programme therefore progressing them onto a level 2 NVQ & an apprenticeship framework.

We work closely with the industry to structure our courses to suit the needs of our students and the ever-changing environment. You will be taught by teachers with a range of experience in Painting & Decorating. All tutors are qualified Painters from industry and have a varied range of skills in relation to Painting & Decorating. The tutors are supported by technicians with relevant qualifications and industrial experience. your NVQ qualification will be supported by an assessor who again comes from industry with the relevant qualifications and experiences.
On successful completion of the level 1 course you can progress onto a level 2 Painting & Decorating course. You could also progress into employment on an apprenticeship framework. On successful completion of the level 2 you can progress onto a Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating or gain employment as a trainee Painter and Decorator in the industry. Students who wish to progress to a management route could move on to the Extended Diploma in Construction.
