Our St Albans campus is home to an Equestrian Centre, Habitat Centre and animal care unit with over 35 different species and exotic animals.
The Oaklands Zoo is located within the Habitat Centre where our Animal Management students gain practical experience in husbandry and livestock handling. If you're visiting with children, you might inspire the next generation of nature enthusiasts.
There's no better place to enjoy an affordable and local activity than Oaklands Zoo.

Scout Badges at the Oaklands Zoo
All of our visits include a tour of the zoo along with a short learning activity, which can be tailored to your group.
We recommend up to 2 hours for the visit for a maximum group size of 30 children/young people. The price is £3.50 per child/young person for a 1-hour session and £5 per child/young person for 1.5 hours. Leaders can visit free of charge.
We can also arrange opportunities for young people undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. These opportunities will help them learn and practice the skills required to care for animals, including livestock, reptiles, aquarium animals, and pets. These sessions can be signed off for the skills or volunteering section of the award. Additionally, these sessions are available during weekends and college holidays.

Learn how to promote the health and happiness of animals by providing them with the correct nutrition, physical environment, healthcare, behavioural interactions, and positive mental states. These 5 domains are crucial for animal welfare.
Visit our animals and learn about their feeding habits and origins. Identify seasonal trees, pond inhabitants, and invertebrates.
Join us to learn about barn owls with Athena. Discover their efficient hunting skills, the challenges they face, and how barn owls help us understand other wildlife by dissecting owl pellets.
Join us for a guided tour of our zoo and discover how human activities impact animals and their habitats. You'll learn about the effects of tourism on coral reefs, the dangers of the illegal pet trade on native species, and how small changes we make can help animals in the wild around the world.
