Oaklands Netball Programme
in association with Hertfordshire Mavericks Netball Super League Club

Develop your potential on and off the court

Programme Outline

Oaklands College in conjunction with 2011 Super League Champions Hertfordshire Mavericks are delighted to announce the launch of a new and outstanding educational opportunity which will combine both academic and sporting performance in a high quality educational and sporting environment.

The programme is aimed at talented Netball players aged 16 years and over who are already playing at a good standard and are committed to improving their netball skills and abilities while gaining further academic qualifications by studying for A levels or BTEC.

The 2012 Netball programme will be based at the Smallford Campus, St Albans and will enable players to combine daily netball coaching sessions with their academic studies. The player focused programme will encourage student athletes to improve as individuals and as team players, to develop their game knowledge and understanding and, equally importantly, complete an appropriate academic course of study.

All Netball Athletes registered with the programme will be managed and fully supported by personnel from Hertfordshire Mavericks’ coaching team which includes both Maggie Jackson (Former England National Coach and current Director of Netball for Hertfordshire Mavericks) and Karen Atkinson (ex England Captain and new Hertfordshire Mavericks Head Coach) working alongside the experienced college academic and teaching staff. Collectively they will supervise the player’s academic learning, strength & conditioning, technical & tactical development, competitive league and cup programmes and inspire players to live by our core values of Teamwork, Work Ethic, Discipline & Respect.

Hertfordshire Mavericks are sponsored by the University of Hertfordshire and play their home matches at the University’s Sports Village so there is a direct link with staff at the University for students interested in academic and sporting progression into Higher Education.
