Writing Courses for Adults

Adult Short Courses in Hertfordshire

Improve your writing skills! Our courses will show you how you can get idea for a story and ways in which you can structure your piece.

We offer computing courses for beginners and Excel or Word courses to improve your confidence at work. If you'd like to know more about social media or eBay, we also have courses covering those subjects.

Please note you need to be aged 19 or over in order to enroll on our community learning courses. Our courses also need sufficient numbers in order to run but we'll contact you in case of a cancellation.

Creative Writing For Beginners: Jan, Thu, 19:00-21:00

Students will gather and explore ideas for stories. Overview of structure including the six main areas of fiction (characters, dialogue, plot, conflict, background and emotion). Writing a synopsis and short story.

Greek Mythology-The Iliad: 1 Day - Sat 23 Mar, 10:00-14:30

We will look at the Iliad the longest sulk in ancient history and how on earth did they survive? Will delve into the story of Achilles who withdrew from the Trojan War in a fit of insulted pride. We will look at the man, the myth and whether there ever was a Trojan War. Suitable for students who have attended previous Saturday courses and new students.

Creative Writing for Improvers: May, Thu, 19:00-21:00

A follow on course from beginners where you will continue to develop skills in creating stories. You will focus on writing a beginning, middle and end, blogging, writing query letters and entering competitions. Advice on approaching a publisher/ self publishing.

Greek Mythology- Greek Myths: 1 Day - Sat 15 June, 10:00-14:30

Greek myths tell the most amazing stories. But perhaps the most amazing story of all is the story of their survival given the hostility of Christianity to all forms of paganism. Suitable for students who have attended previous Saturday courses and new students.
