Local Welwyn Garden City Amnesty International (AI) group volunteer Reg Pyne visited Citizenship students today to discuss the charity’s work and its importance.

Reg explained to the group how he got involved with AI almost 50 years ago and the origins of the organisation. He then spoke about some of the current campaigns and showed some powerful videos showing what they were doing, such as the the campaign to control arms and working to stop torture.

Reg discussed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and asked the students what was important about rights, and what rights they would have liked to see mentioned.

It was a pleasure to have a local volunteer visit the students and they went away thinking about how they could write letters of support or campaign against issues like prisoners of conscience.
