Apprentices win prizes at national level

At the National Apprenticeship Awards held on Wednesday 29 June, MBDA and Oaklands College apprentice, Jack Speirs, was Highly Commended (Runner Up) in the National Awards for Apprentices in the UK. This is following Jack’s success as the North West of England as ‘Best Apprentice’.

MBDA was Highly Commended (Runner Up) in the Awards for having the best Apprenticeship Training Programme for a large company in the UK.

At the same event MBDA was also recognised in the Top 100 Companies/Training Organisations for its apprenticeship scheme on both the Commercial and Engineering sides.

World Skills

The World Skills UK Team for 2011 was announced at the awards and Andrew Fielding from MBDA, a previous UK Winner in Electronics, was named as the UK representative in Electronics to compete in World Skills 2011 in London later this year. Andrew has also been invited to Buckingham Palace on Thursday to meet the Duke of York with the rest of the team on 30 June.

UK Electronics

In the recent UK Electronics Skills Competition 2011, which has just been completed in Northern Ireland following months of competition round the UK, MBDA apprentices took Gold, Silver and Bronze medals as well as fourth and fifth place. The two day event covered every aspect of electronics and it is the fifth year running that one of MBDA’s apprentices has won the national gold medal.
