Athletic students step onto National and International stage

On the weekend of March 17, Martina Barber and Jordan Smallin of the College’s Advanced Sports Programme set steps on the National and International stage at the World Indoor Mencap Championships, in Manchester.

Martina – who achieved Gold in the Long Jump and Silver in the Shot put at the Hertfordshire County Indoor Athletics Championships earlier this month – took home two Silver medals for the Pentathlon and the 60m Hurdles. This was Martina’s first outing as part of the GBteam and her solid performance shows promise for her athletic future!

Jordan Smallin attended the open selection for the British Bobsleigh team, and also looks set for a career on the International stage. Jordan set the Junior National testing records and earned an invitation to the second round of Nationals selections and is now the second Oaklands athlete to achieve success in this discipline following in the footsteps of World Youth Olympian Frances Slater.
