On Friday 13 June Oaklands College held its fifth annual School Games event for 19 local primary schools. This year the event was held in celebration of the upcoming Commonwealth Games and saw over 100 year 4 students taking part in a wide range of sporting activities including cheerleading, rugby, archery, golf, football, basketball, rowing and athletics.

The majority of the events were facilitated by Oaklands College academy students demonstrating their sporting expertise by running the athletics, basketball, football and rugby activities whilst young Sports Leaders from Nicholas Breakspear school and other providers oversaw the other activities including Change 4 Life and archery.

The day was co-organised by Tanya Angus, School Games Manager of the Schools Sports Partnership. Tanya commented:  “The sun was out, the games fantastic, and the children enjoyed every minute. All in all it was another successful day, and to see so many children engaged in the variety of activities and really enjoying themselves makes me excited for next year.”

Zoe Hancock, Principal of the College, commented: “The School Games are always a great event for us to host and we are proud to be able to provide such a great day for the local primary schools.

“It is a fantastic community initiative that is so well received by the schools and children and we look forward to continue supporting it in the future.”
