Oaklands College has recently announced that it is moving its Borehamwood training provision to a different location in the town and offering free transport links from there to its St. Albans and Welwyn Garden City campuses.

The current Borehamwood campus is no longer being used to its full potential, with very few learners from the local community using the site. Instead, Oaklands College will move its training provision to a new location, close to the station and city centre. It will also offer a free bus service for local students to access the larger, main campuses at St. Albans and Welwyn Garden City.

College Principal Mark Dawe comments: “Borehamwood is, and will remain, an important part of the overall college mix. Despite the relocation, we will continue to support and increase our presence in the Borehamwood community, through initiatives such as the Borehamwood football club, Executive Forums*, our community drop-in-shop for basic skills and our representation in the Local Strategic Partnership Group.

“There will be changes and we will not be able to deliver all of the courses currently being run at Borehamwood. We will however ensure that all students can access our other sites by launching a free bus service taking learners from the centre of Borehamwood to St. Albans and Welwyn Garden City campuses. This will mean that all students have access to our full learning provision and the support structure that comes from a wider learning environment.

“We will also be investing in a robust modernisation plan for our Smallford and Welwyn Garden City campuses so that all sites offer the most up-to-date facilities based within a desirable learning environment.

“All learners affected by the change have been notified and we will continue to work with them to ensure that their needs are met.”

The new location will be open from September 2010.
