What are the Course Requirements?

Students should already have a BTEC Higher National Certificate in an engineering discipline.

You will need to complete the Higher National (HNC) before starting the HND. There is no direct entry on to this course.

Modules to be Studied: Further Analytical Methods, Research Project, Design for Manufacture, Application of Pneumatics & Hydraulics Programmable Logic Controllers

Assessment is by a series of assignments (course work).

The engineering sector is continuing to close the skills gap and needs to keep up with rapidly developing technologies. The Level 1 in Engineering has been designed to give those of you that are new entrants to the engineering sector the underpinning knowledge and specific skills needed to meet the needs of modern engineering industries.

The BTEC Firsts in Engineering link to many of the National Occupational Standards in engineering and can contribute towards the knowledge, skills and understanding of one or more engineering NVQs.

The content of the qualifications goes beyond that strictly required for an NVQ, and provides for progression into employment and to further education and qualifications such as the BTEC Diplomas in Engineering. The qualifications are also expected to be recognised as technical certificates as part of apprenticeship schemes at Level 2.

The qualification structures include a wide range of units to provide opportunities for learners who intend progressing into technician roles as well as for those who are not yet based in industry and wish to gain an understanding of engineering.
