About the department

Working in today’s challenging and fast-paced IT environment and being able to adapt to the changing world requires you to have a wide range of skills.

If you are looking to embark on a career in IT, then look no further. Our team is made up of highly qualified ICT teachers who are experts in Microsoft software, as well as networking, programming and hardware installation.

Most of our teachers have come from the ICT and business industry and have a wealth of experience to share with you. They are supportive and motivational tutors who will do their best to make your time at with us enjoyable, interesting and an excellent learning experience. They will also support you in finding employment or a university place of your choosing.

Important Course Information

What are the Course Requirements?

Three GCSEs with 3 points or at Grade D or above including Maths and English or a Level 1 qualification.

You should have completed a general education up to the age of 16. You should have an interest in information technology and a career goal to work in the IT industry. It is expected that you would have a good working knowledge of using a PC.

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma is a qualification designed to provide specialist work-related experience in a range of IT topics. It will give students the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment in IT or other related industries. The course currently covers a range of subjects including Computer Systems, Web Site Design, Games Design, Database Systems and using IT to communicate effectively.

Assessment is through a combination of internally assessed coursework and one examined unit. You must pass all the units to achieve the qualification. Your overall grade will be determined by the average of all units studied.

Functional Skills: You will also take a Functional Skills qualification in either English or Mathematics depending on your existing qualifications.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress to the Level 3 course which is the BTEC Extended Diploma in IT or within employment and/or continue your study in a related vocational area.
