About the department

Our Trowel Trades courses (Brickwork, Multi-Skills, Painting & Decorating and Plastering) are all delivered by fully qualified and experienced staff ensuring that you will get the best out of your course, whichever field you choose to study.

We have recently invested in new purpose built construction facilities at our St Albans Campus, which include bespoke training bays and industry standard workshops. We work closely with the industry to structure our courses to suit the needs of our students and the ever-changing environment.

For students already in employment within the construction industry, options exist to study courses on day-release, block-release or evening programmes according to the trade. Apprenticeships are also available.

Important Course Information

What are the Course Requirements?

Three GCSEs with 3 points or at Grade D or above or successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification.

The course structure consists of 2 core units and 5 trade units: Core units: Health, Safety & Welfare in Construction Principles of Construction Information & Communication. Trade Units: Building repairs (brick, block, slab) Painting and decorating repairs Plastering repairs Plumbing repairs Carpentry repairs

As part of the study programme all full time learners must achieve a minimum of 85% percent attendance, level 1 Maths & English Functional skills, PSD, Work Experience.
