Our Equine Department's teaching team are a group of highly qualified lecturers with a wealth of knowledge in this rewarding and challenging field, including competition and industrial experience. The team includes a BSJA accredited coach and veterinary surgeon.
You will need some basic horse handling experience and a keen interest in providing good care to horses. In order to take the exam you will need to be a Gold member of the British Horse Society.
You will need to be hard working, motivated and determined to learn both the theoretical and practical elements of this course.
You will learn the basic care of the horse to include grooming, tacking up, points of the horse, basic foot care, manual handling, mucking out and bedding types, feeding and watering and general knowledge.
For BHS members wishing to take the exam there will be an exam scheduled for the end of the course. We cannot guarantee you a space or that the exam will run if there is a lack of interest.
For those of you wanting to go into employment, the aim of our Equine course(s) are to produce competent carers working with horses, with the potential to take up management positions after further experience.
