About the department

Our Performing Arts Department is dedicated to making sure our students are able to grow as performers, while gaining the skills they will need for the workplace or progressing into Higher Education.

Whether you want to be on stage or behind the scenes, our courses offer you opportunities to develop your creative skills in an exciting and professional environment.

A passion for Performing Arts is essential as you will learn acting, dancing and singing. You are not expected to be an expert in all three but we are looking for students who are enthusiastic, willing and ready to develop and improve.

The Department is run by students as a professional theatre company, providing them with real life experience of the industry, opportunities to perform regularly and to undertake other job roles within the sector.

We have invested in our facilities and students can now benefit from a brand new professional theatre and dance studio.

Important Course Information

What are the Course Requirements?

No formal entry requirements.

You need to be interested in at least one of the three diciplines of Music, performing arts or Media.

This programme provides opportunities for you to explore, develop and test your creativity while enhancing self-confidence and revealing the potential career demands and opportunities within the sector. Units include: • an introduction to the equipment and processes used in music, performing and production arts, and the skills necessary to record and express ideas • an understanding of how contextual research is used to support creative activities • an introduction to the communication skills used in support of creative activities and develop an understanding of the role that communication skills play in informing and developing ideas • an opportunity to use acquired skills, knowledge and understanding to explore and resolve creative problems • an opportunity to develop personal strengths in music, performing and production arts and to use the knowledge, understanding and skills developed in previous units

In order to achieve the qualification, students must successfully pass six units – five units at Level 1, then a choice of one further unit at either Level 1 or Level 2. This final project unit allows students to demonstrate all the learning that has taken place through completion of the other units. This unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and determines the overall qualification grade.
