Overview

Would you like to get started in potential future employment in the IT or creative industries? This course will give you a good foundation for potential roles in the industry.

You will develop a broad range of technical skills, such as software programming, multimedia, automated systems and developing skills which will also include basic installation and configuration. You’ll learn how to design and create databases, develop websites, create video and other assets.

You will also develop employment and team work skills which will enable you to develop and grow as an individual, using those essential interpersonal skills needed for the 21st century employment market.

Course Content - What will I learn?

The Level 2 First Extended Certificate is a qualification designed to provide specialist work-related experience in a range of IT topics. It will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for employment in IT or other related industries. The course currently covers a range of subjects including Computer Systems, Web Site Design, Games Design, Database Systems and using IT to communicate effectively.

Am I right for the course?

You should have completed a general education up to the age of 16. You should have an interest in information technology and a career goal to work in the IT industry. It is expected that you would have a good working knowledge of using a PC.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

Assessment is through a combination of internally assessed coursework and one examined unit. You must pass all the units to achieve the qualification. Your overall grade will be determined by the average of all units studied.

Functional Skills: You will also take a Functional Skills qualification in either English or Mathematics depending on your existing qualifications.

Oaklands College has a team of qualified ICT teachers. All are proficient in Microsoft software, as well as Networking, Programming and Hardware installation. Some have come from the ICT and Business industry and have a wealth of experience to share with you. They are supportive and motivational tutors who will do their best to make your time at Oaklands enjoyable, interesting and an excellent learning experience.

What Next?

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress to the BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Computing or within employment and/or continue your study in a related vocational area.

Successful completion of your chosen course could lead onto a higher level course, university or into employment.

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
