Am I right for the course?

The Access to HE Humanities and Social Sciences course is designed for those whose primary aim is to progress to university and study for a humanities subject related degree. The course is offered as a one year full time programme.

At least a one year break from education and initial assessment results at Level 2 in English and Maths. In addition an interview with an Access to HE tutor will be required. You must have a GCSE Grade C in English or Maths at entry. You must also be willing to undertake the other as part of the programme as most Universities require grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English for admission.

You will be assessed through a variety of graded assignments at the end of every unit. You will also be required to undertake some assessments in an examination setting. The credits are tracked and accumulate towards the building of a portfolio.

It is recommended that you engage in at least 20 hours of work experience in your chosen field during the year to support your application to university. If you do not hold a GCSE at grade C or above in mathematics or English you will be required to take this in addition to your course.

Oaklands College has a team of experienced and specialist subject staff who have industry experience and deliver the teaching and learning on the programme. In addition there is a dedicated team of personal tutors who will help you develop your study skills and support you in reaching your full academic potential.
