Overview

The course is over five alternate Saturday’s and aims to encourage and support you in producing pottery of a high standard while working at your own pace, in a friendly and relaxed environment. As the groups level of experience will be varied the tutor will cover clay preparation, (wedging and kneading), slab building, coiling, throwing i.e. centering/cylinders and turning and the use of slips and glazing techniques for those that require more development.

Please note this course is not suitable for beginners, refer to ‘What are the Coures Requirements’, for more information.

Course Content - What will I learn?

The course offers a variety of forms of clay work. Learn the techniques of coiling, slab-ware, wheel-work, slip ware, glazing (spraying, dipping and pouring) and decorating. The tutor will also be able to provide advice in the setting up of your own workshop, including information on kilns, glazes, branding, marketing and health and safety.

Am I right for the course?

This course is for learners 19 years old and over and is a workshop activity where learners will extend their skills and knowledge in this craft.

To have completed a Pottery – TRY A NEW CRAFT/ Beginners course (approximately 20 hours).

Progress and achievement will be observed on an individual basis, with support and encouragement where it is required.

The course fee includes a material charge to cover the cost of clay, glazing and firing, up to a maximum weight of 1.5kg. If 1.5kg is exceeded then additional costs will apply.

Materials to be provided by the student: An apron, sketch book/notebook. Students will be advised on any further items they may require for individual projects.

Fees

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
