L2 Technical Certificate in Electrical Installation

Overview

The Level 2 Certificate in Electrical Installation is the industry recognised route to get on your way to becoming a fully qualified electrician in the building services industry. The course covers all of the essential electrical installation skills, knowledge of electrical science and electrical principles to be confident in working within the electrical industry and will prepare you to progress to a Level 3 course or undertake an apprenticeship.

Course Content - What will I learn?

An introduction to the basic techniques and methods of different wiring systems used in the electrical
installation industry. This is workshop based and involves working with a range of different wire and enclosure types. Applications of electrical science, Motors, magnetism, single and poly phase power are all aspects of the electrical installation industry and understanding the working principles of these is a part of an electricians training. Circuit and installation calculations. An electrician must be able to calculate the way a circuit or an installation is going to operate before any wiring begins. This is to ensure the installation methods and circuit components are safe and will operate correctly both under normal running and fault conditions.

Am I right for the course?

This qualification is for you if you are aged 16-19 and wish to work as an electrician in the building services industry. It has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress into an apprenticeship programme or into employment.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

To gain this qualification, you must must successfully achieve one externally set, externally moderated synoptic assignment and one externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions.

The electrical installation team at Oaklands College has come into Further Education from different parts of the electrical installation industry. Collectively, they have experience in domestic, commercial and industrial installation work, motors and control circuits, data cabling and software applications, installation inspection and testing, installation design and verification, electrical and electronic engineering.

What Next?

On successful completion of a Level 2 Technical Certificate in Electrical Installation you can continue your studies on a Level 3 Apprenticeship or possibly a T Level Building Services Engineering qualification.

During any of our Electrical courses you will be expected to seek employment in the industry enabling you to gain invaluable hands-on experience.

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
