Level 2 Technical Certificate in Equine Care

Overview

This course is ideally suited to students who wish to spend a year developing their knowledge and experience working with horses. The course is highly practical and learners applying for this course will be expected to be hardworking, keen to learn about horse care and willing to take a ‘hands on’ approach when working on the stable yard.

The course is designed to introduce you to the many career options within the equestrian industry and youu will develop the knowledge and practical skills you’ll need to work within the industry.

You will also have the opportunity to study for British Horse Society qualifications such as the BHS Preparation for Stage 1 and Stage 2 examinations.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will learn about the daily care of horses and a variety of skills you would need to work in the Equine industry.

Am I right for the course?

If you have a strong passion and comitment for horses and want to improve your riding and management skills then this course would suit your needs.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways: practical assessments, worksheets, questions, projects, poster, written assignments, presentations and exams

The training for British Horse Society exams will be offered as part of your course. The exams will take place at Oaklands College Smallford. Students will be responsible for joining the BHS and entering and paying for the exam.

The dedicated team of staff within the Equestrian department at Oaklands College include a BHS Examiner, a multiple Champion at HOYS, a qualified vet, two BSJA Coaches and a keen Eventer. Producing learners to work to high, practical and academic standards in the equine industry is our speciality. All staff hold academic and teaching qualifications and have vast practical experience which allows for effective teaching and learning.

What Next?

Success at Level 2 with positive references from employers and tutors will enable you to progress on to the NPTC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management.

For those of you wanting to go into employment, the aim of our Equine course(s) are to produce competent carers working with horses, with the potential to take up management positions after further experience.

Fees

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
