Overview

The Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design is achieved by completing eight units; six mandatory units that everyone takes and two specialist units which enable you to study particular areas in more depth.

Course Content - What will I learn?

All students take six mandatory units: 2D and 3D Visual Communication, Contextual References, Produce an Art and Design Outcome, Portfolio Building, The Art and Design Industry, Two specialist units briefs from: Printmaking, Visual Arts, Textiles, 3D Design, Multi-media.

Am I right for the course?

If you enjoy learning about Art and Design, working with materials to make your own art, exploring with clay, paint, textiles, inks and paint, you will enjoy the range of opportunities to develop your skills further. You will print, paint, construct, design and draw producing work in a variety of scales and media. You will learn to record your work by illustrating and writing ideas in your sketchbooks. Computer studies will enable you to experiment and develop your work and you will gain a working knowledge of Photoshop software and image manipulation techniques. If you are passionate about Art, want to explore Art and Design from a 2D and 3D perspective and build on your experience to move onto a Level 3 programme, then this is the right course for you.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

The course is mostly assessed through continuous formative assessments both written and verbal, carried out on a regular basis internally by your tutors. On completing the units, you will be given final feedback and you will be awarded a pass, merit or distinction at the end of each unit (marks can be checked through internal inspection and external verification procedures at set points in the year). There are two practical assessments where you will be supported in the research and development of your idea, before completing a final piece under examination conditions.

Additionalities will be built in as appropriate to your programme of learning. Additionalities on the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design include Printmaking and Digital Imaging and Functional Skills in English or Maths if required.

What Next?

With further training or study, students could progress to careers such as: Graphic Design, Fabric/Textile Design, Photography, Interior Design, Fine Art or 3D Design. A Level 2 Diploma prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advance course such as Level 3 Diploma in: Art and Design, Fashion, Graphic Design, Interactive Media, Photography or Textiles.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
