The L2 Diploma is suitable for those candidates who wish to obtain a professional career in the engineering industry and to go on to a Level 3. This is a practical based qualification that enables students to acquire engineering competencies in a realistic environment. The qualification covers some of the fundamental skills and knowledge common to all engineering practices.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

Students are assessed holistically, through collection of evidence in a portfolio, verbally, witness testimony and demonstrating knowledge and understanding.

Students that have yet to achieve their C or above in GCSE English and/or maths will be expected to study this alongside their main programme. In addition, students will develop study skills and maths in context with Engineering to support their development and progression.

What Next?

Students can progress onto the Level 3 in Engineering or an Apprenticeship

There are so many different areas of engineering to work in; however, most engineers choose to specialise in just one, such as chemical, automotive or robotics.  Careers in engineering are constantly evolving and new processes and technologies are being developed all the time.  This allows engineers to stay on the ball and react to new problems and challenges in their chosen career.

Engineering careers are constantly varied in terms of their job responsibilities, but also in their working locations.  As an engineer you could be working in an office, in a laboratory, on an oil rig, in a factory or on a race track.

Each engineering discipline requires professionals with very specific skill-sets.  However each and every area of this sector is as complex as the next.  Consequently, all engineers need to have strong mathematical skills, logic and the ability to rise to intellectual and practical challenges.
