Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies

Overview

This part-time course is designed primarily for adult students aged 19 or over and is held one evening a week over the academic year. Students will complete Level 2 Hairdressing covering a range of units. All units will have a mixture of written assessments, multiple choice tests and will include practical summative assessments on paying clients covering ranges set by VTCT.

Course Content - What will I learn?

This qualification will develop a complete repertoire of technical skills to prepare you for employment as a junior hairdresser/stylist. Units covered will include:
Follow health and safety practice in the salon, Client consultation for hair services, Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp, The art of dressing hair, Cut women’s hair, The art of colouring hair, Colour and lighten hair and Salon reception duties.
You will also study English and maths as part of your programme at the appropriate level for you. Work experience, enrichment and employability will also form an integral part of your course.

Am I right for the course?

All students who have a keen interest in hairdressing will enjoy this course. You will need to be organised, committed and willing to work independently and as part of a group, as the course is both rigorous and demanding in an academic and practical sense. If you think this suits you, then you will find the course interesting, stimulating, challenging and very rewarding.

No previous qualifications required. This is a part-time programme for adult learners (age 19+).

Assessment is evidenced in a portfolio of work. Assessments include examination, observation, written assignments and oral questioning. You will treat clients in the commercial salon and will receive practice treatments from students.

It is a requirement that students will attend a late night weekly session until 8.30pm and will need to arrange appropriate transport home at this time, as this reflects industry standards. You will be required to purchase a uniform and kit through the college (approximate cost £270)
