Overview

This qualification will develop a complete repertoire of technical skills to prepare you for employment as a junior hairdresser/stylist. You will learn in our fully equipped professional hair salon and get the opportunity to work with real clients.

Course Content - What will I learn?

This qualification will develop a complete repertoire of technical skills
to prepare you for employment as a junior hairdresser/stylist. Units covered
will include:
Follow health and safety practice in the salon, Client
consultation for hair services, Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp, The
art of dressing hair, Cut women’s hair, The art of colouring hair, Colour and
lighten hair and Salon reception duties.
You will also study English and
maths as part of your programme at the appropriate level for you. Work
experience, enrichment and employability will also form an integral part of your
course.

Am I right for the course?

All students who have a keen interest in hairdressing will enjoy this course. You will need to be organised, committed and willing to work independently and as part of a group, as the course is both rigorous and demanding in an academic and practical sense. If you think this suits you, then you will find the course interesting, stimulating, challenging and very rewarding.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification. Professional Reference

Assessment is evidenced in a portfolio of work. Assessments include examination, observation, written assignments and oral questioning. You will treat clients in the commercial salon and will receive practice treatments from students.

It is a requirement that students will attend a late night weekly session until 8.30pm and will need to arrange appropriate transport home at this time, as this reflects industry standards. You will be required to purchase a uniform and kit through the college (approximate cost £270)

What Next?

Progression onto Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies or employment.

Our Hair and Beauty courses enable you to work in a wide variety of salons, nail bars, spas, cruise ships, or even work abroad in luxury resorts. Depending on the level you choose to study, we recommend that you carry on climbing the ladder within Oaklands, and then onto university or into employment.

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
