The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Make up Artistry is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop practical skills in make up application and hairdressing. The following units are mandatory and must be completed to achieve the full qualification

– Health safety and hygiene
– Make-up applications
– Hair preparation services
– Continuity planning for make-up services
– Dress and finish hair services
– Continuity hair services
– Anatomy and physiology for make-up artists
– Total look for competition work
– Face and body art painting
– Fashion and editorial make-up

Am I right for the course?

You need to have a keen interest in both hair and make-up and be looking to work in this industry. You need to enjoy working and communicating professionally with people. As part of the course you will need to perform treatments on clients and peers. It is a requirement that students wear uniform and meet salon standards, this includes wearing hair up and being presentable at all times.

You will have to complete a minimum of 30 hours work experience within the industry outside of your timetabled hours. Distance learning tasks are undertaken with the support of your tutors and you will require time to complete these tasks outside of timetabled hours.

Three GCSEs with 3 points or at Grade D or above or a relevant Level 1


Assessment is evidenced in a portfolio of work. Assessments include examination, observation, written assignments and oral questioning. You will treat clients in the commercial salon and will receive practice treatments from students.

All courses in this area will have a mandatory kit and uniform. This is to be ordered at August enrolment.

The college is currently working with employers to support students to access essential work experience opportunities. This includes virtual speakers, employers giving talks on site or placements with employers. Additional off-site trips will be available and linked to course units. (Additional costs may occur)

Additional professional development alongside the could include product training skills and nano hair treatments.

Your teachers and assessors will have a minimum of five years industry experience supporting your learning and assessment targets and plans. You will be supported by an internal verifier throughout the assessment process
