Overview

This two year course is designed to take you through the creative processes of Graphic Design, Animation and Audio Visual Media. Many students continue onto further studies at university and work in the 2D and 3D animation, games design, concept art for games design, and multimedia. Some students given the wide variety of skills have gained places in graphics, illustration and photography.

Course Content - What will I learn?

In the first year you will undertake the National Diploma progressing onto the Extended Diploma in the second year. The course will develop into an area of your choice in digital media. Using industry related software for 3D Animation, Web Design, Video and Graphic Design on Apple Macs, you will explore your creative side in exciting and dynamic ways to produce high standard projects. This can lead to a varied career in Game Design, Video Production, Animation or Graphics.

Am I right for the course?

If you enjoy drawing, animation, concept art, video recording, photography, using graphic design software, having fun and working hard individually and within a group then yes you are on the right course This course covers a wide range of subjects to enable career progression onto University to study any of the above including Animation, games design and more.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 9 – 4 including maths and English or a full Level 2 with a merit profile and grades 9 – 4 in English & maths.

There are no written exams on this course. Formative assessments are carried out on a continuous basis internally by your tutors and you will be given personalised targets to support you in achieving your potential. At the end of each unit, you will be awarded either a pass, merit or distinction.

All learners at Oaklands College take part in an initial assessment for Maths and English, to help us ensure that everyone reaches their full potential and has the appropriate supporting skills to enable access to University or relevant employment. In year one you will study an additionality award that may include Graphics, Print and Photography and in year two City and Guilds L2 Life drawing.

Tutors on the course have all been working in animation, computer graphics, photography 3D design, the graphic design industry and related fields. Some still work on a freelance basis and have a wealth of industry experience as well as the educational commitment to ensure that you are guided in the right way in order to achieve at a high level and reach your career goals. Tutors specialisms include: 2D animation, 3D animation, computer graphics, photography, 3D design and Historical research. We believe that it is our course strength that students benefit from staff who have had first hand experience from an industry perspective.

What Next?

This course has a high success rate, with many students entering Higher Education. Most students have gone on to complete a Foundation or Degree Level course in, 2D and 3D animation, games design, multimedia, concept art for games design and 3D modelling. A few students have chosen to go directly into the creative computer design industry on completion of the course. Whatever you want to do with your qualification, we can help you put it into practice.

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
