AAT Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Accounting – Day
In this qualification you will cover higher accounting tasks including drafting financial statements, managing budgets and evaluating financial performance, as well as optional specialist units including business tax, personal tax, external auditing and credit management and cash and treasury management.
If you successfully complete this qualification and fulfil the relevant work experience requirements, you can apply for AAT full membership and achieve professional MAAT status.
Course Content - What will I learn?
The course consists of five units covering the following topics:
- Applied Management Accounting
- Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements
- Internal Accounting Systems and Controls
- Personal Tax
- Credit and Debt Management
The course fee of £2573, which covers the cost of tuition and first exam sitting.
Am I right for the course?
This is a challenging professional qualification at a higher education level so you must be sure that you have the knowledge and skills to understand and apply the subject matter. In addition, you must also have the commitment, motivation, and organisational skills to undertake the required independent learning.
You will need to satisfy the following minimum criteria:
AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting or equivalent, ideally at Merit or Distinction level.
GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English. You will need good communication and critical thinking skills for this qualification.
Experience of using Microsoft Excel for accounting purposes is essential.
Experience of working in accounting roles across a range of subjects is recommended.
Achievement at Level 4 on the AAT Skillscheck (available on the AAT website).
As this is a Level 4 programme, you must be able to dedicate time to home study- usually between 7-10 hours per week.
After your application is processed you will be required to attend an interview with a course tutor.
You will be assessed via Computer-Based Assessments (CBAs) set and marked by the AAT. There are 5 assessments:
– Applied Management Accounting
– Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements
– Internal Accounting Systems and Controls
(The Internal Accounting System and Control will ask students to apply knowledge and skills gained across the qualification in an integrated way, within a workplace context. Scenarios will change over time to ensure the validity of the assessment).
Following two units will be offered by the college
– Personal Tax
– Credit and Debt Management
The cost of any resit assessments is usually £55 per unit.
You will also have to purchase your own additional course books, which can range from £20 to £35 per unit.
You will need to ensure that your AAT membership is up to date. The current rates can be found on the AAT website.
Please note: you cannot sit the AAT exams if you are not a member of the Association.

Thee accountancy skills developed by studying this qualification will enable you to seek employment with confidence, and/or to progress to study chartered accountancy.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.
