Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Construction & The Built Environment



11 units are required to achieve the EDEXCEL National Extended Diploma in Construction & the Built Environment. There are 6 core units and 5 specialised units (all of which must be taken).

The 6 core units are:

Tendering and Estimating
Surveying in Construction
Management of Construction Project
Building Surveying in Construction
Graphical Detailing in Construction
Building Regulation & Control in Construction

The 5 specialised units are:

Offsite and Onsite alternative Energy
Construction in Civil Engineering
Renewable Energy for Housing
Housing Design Project
Work Experience in Construction

Am I right for the course?

The course provides a specialist work related programme of study covering key knowledge and skills required in the sector. It is broadly equivalent to 2 A levels in preparation for the HNC in Construction Management. The qualification offers an engaging programme for all students over 16. This qualification is designed to facilitate learners who are clear about their employment choice, and employed in the construction industry. For adult learners the qualification confirms and extends their work experience in the sector in preparation for an HNC in Construction Management. It also provides a suitable qualification for those wishing to change career or move into the Construction Industry following a career break.

Successful completion of a BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Construction & the Built Environment and 4 GCSEs with 4 points or at Grade C or above including English and Maths.

A variety of assessment methods are used on the course such as exam, case studies, assignments, work-based assessments together with projects, performance observation and time-constrained assessments.

What Next?

You can progress onto our HNC in Construction Management, T-Levels, Degree Apprenticeship/University Degree or you may wish to further your career development within the industry.

Successful completion of the Extended Diploma in Construction can lead to progression on to the HNC in Construction or other Higher Education courses or alternatively into employment within the construction and property industry.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.
