NCFE L2 Award in Awareness of Dementia


This qualification aims to develop the knowledge and skills required when providing positive care for people with dementia and their families. The Level 2 Award provides an awareness of the causes and symptoms of dementia. This qualification is aligned to the National Dementia Strategy.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will take the following units:

Dementia Awareness
The person-centered approach to the care and support on individuals with dementia
Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care

Am I right for the course?

It is suitable for anyone who wants to work in social care in either local authority or provate care environments. It is also suitable for qualified practitioners who have not covered dementia care in previous qualifications.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, you should be aged 19 or over.

It will be assessed by your Tutor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.

The Health and Social Care Team are made up of Lecturers with both academic and vocational backgrounds in Health and Social care and related disciplines. The expertise within the team include: Nursing, Care, Management, Social Policy, Early Years, Counselling and Psychology.

What Next?

This qualification does not qualify you to work in social care settings, but does support you working towards employment or to aid career development if you are a social care qualified practitioner.
