The Level 2 Award in Effective Mentoring in an Organisation – ILM
Overview
The qualification is aimed that those interested in mentoring colleagues in the workplace and runs from Feb to June on Thursdays 9.30-11.30.
There is an initial period of face to face sessions that cover mentoring approaches and techniques followed by a period of practice, when you will carry out a minimum of 3 mentoring interventions with your mentee. You then come together in a face to face setting at the end of the course to complete your portfolio.
You will also have a 1 to1 tutorial with your tutor/supervisor and one supervisory observation of your mentoring practice.
Course Content - What will I learn?
Understanding Mentoring Skills. This covers:
1. The role of mentor
2. Understanding what makes an effective mentor
3. Understanding how to organise mentoring
• Developing Mentoring Skills. This covers:
1. Being able to commence mentoring sessions
2. Undertaking a minimum of three hours mentoring with a colleague
3. Being able to review your performance
Am I right for the course?
Entry requirements:
19+
A genuine interest in using own experience to help colleagues to develop their own competence in a workplace setting
Level 2 English (GCSE 4/C or equivalent)
Successful completion of a basic literacy task
Basic IT skills
Attendance at all Face to face settings
Having an appropriate mentee in place before the start of the course
One written assignment
• Completion of planning and reflective documentation related to a minimum of three mentoring sessions with a colleague
• Completion of one review session based on observation of your mentoring practice with your supervisor
• An evaluation of your own practice
• Submission of an appropriate portfolio of work
The cost of the course is £200 and you will be expected to buy your own learning resources, including a core textbook, which will cost in the region of £20.
You will be taught by practitioners who work in mentoring roles within the college.

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.
For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.
Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.
All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
