Overview

The ILM Level 3 Certificate in Effective Coaching and Mentoring is a nationally recognised qualification. It is particularly useful if you are involved in coaching and mentoring staff at your workplace. Perhaps you are in a supervisory or line management role or are looking to be so and would like a formal qualification.
You will look at a range of approaches, models, tools and techniques that will help you to develop in others the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to be effective in their workplace.

The course is delivered through a mixture of in-college and remote learning.

There are face to face sessions at St Albans Campus on Fridays 13.30-16.30. There will be more of these at the beginning of the course when dealing with the theoretical aspects. Thereafter, you will be undertaking the practical activities in your own setting.
You will also have 1 to 1 supervisory meetings either in person or on TEAMS.

There is currently no government funding for the course. However, you may be able to pay the £724 fee in three instalments.
You would also expect to spend around £60-£70 on related textbooks.

Course Content - What will I learn?

There are two mandatory units:
1. 300 – Understanding Good Practice in Coaching within an Organisational Context
2. 301 – Understanding Good Practice in Mentoring within in Organisational Context

Plus:
1. 302 – Undertaking an extended period of coaching within an organisation
2. 303 – Reflecting on coaching skills within an organisational context

Am I right for the course?

You should have:
a Level 2 English qualification e.g. GCSE C/4 or equivalent.
good speaking and listening skills and a dedication to developing talents in others.
a relevant occupational qualification in the area in which you are coaching/mentoring.
a role where you are, or likely to be, coaching or mentoring others.
access to IT to undertake remote learning, 1 to 1 tutorial, assignment submissions.

*You need to have your Coach arranged prior to the start of the course. It is important that you have an understanding of their organisational context.

All work is assignment based and internally assessed and verified.
The mandatory units are assessed through two written assignments (about 2900-3300 words each).
The optional units are assessed through the assessment of a portfolio of evidence of practical coaching or mentoring (completion of appropriate documentation), and a reflective account (about 2900-3300 words).
Assignments are Pass/Refer.
You will need to have a maximum of two coaches or mentors to deliver a minimum of 12 hours recorded practical evidence.

You need to supply your own learning materials.
Recommended textbooks should cost in the region of £60-70.

You will be taught by teachers that have appropriate qualifications and experience of coaching and mentoring.

What Next?

The skills you have acquired on the course will support you if you want to progress to a higher qualification such as The Level 5 Diploma in Effective Coaching and Mentoring. On the other hand, you may wish to study on a more managerial orientated course such as the Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management.

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
