Level 3 Award in Education and Training

teaching

Overview

The Level 3 Award provides an introduction to teaching that will give you an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching/training sessions and how to assess and give constructive and developmental feedback.
You will have the opportunity to plan and deliver a teaching session (micro teach) as well as observe your fellow classmates when they deliver their own micro teaching session.
The course will be delivered face to face in the main. However, candidates will also experience 1 or 2 sessions delivered remotely via platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom. This is to gain experience in remote learning and to highlight some basic digital teaching skills.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will cover topics including:

1. Roles and responsibilities of the teacher
2. Planning and facilitating learning in groups
3. Understanding the principles and practices of assessment

Am I right for the course?

The Award is suitable for:
• Candidates who work, or want to work as teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector.
• Candidates who are not in a teaching/training role, or who have just started in a teaching/training role.
• Candidates who want a short qualification to enable them to make career choices.
• Candidates over 19 years old.

You need to have a Level 3 qualification or equivalent in the subject that you would like to teach.
Ideally you will have Level 2 English and Maths.
All applicants will be required to undertake an initial assessment of skills in English and demonstrate that you are able to produce written work that is at level 2.
You must have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word in order to write the assignments.
5-7 hours study time outside the taught session is recommended.

You will be assessed through written and practical assignments submitted as a portfolio of evidence.

You will need to supply your own study resources. The college will supply general resources for the microteach element of the session e.g. pens, flipchart paper, where appropriate. You will need to supply any specialist resources.

You will need to buy the textbook, The Award in Education and Training by Ann Gravells (2014), which costs around £20.

You will be taught by an experienced team of tutors who have considerable experience of the further education and skills sector.
