Level 3 National Foundation Diploma / Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science

Overview

The Pearson BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science is intended to be an Applied General qualification. It is for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning, and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the sport and exercise science sector. You will complete the National Foundation Diploma in the first year with the option of progressing to the Extended Diploma in the second year. Successful completion of the Extended Diploma provides UCAS points equivalent to 3 A Levels.

Am I right for the course?

The qualification gives you the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin study of the sport and exercise science sector, and givesyou additional breadth and depth to prepare you fully for further study or training. This includes the opportunity for you to choose several topics from a selection of options reflecting progression in sport and exercise science.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 9 – 4 including maths, English and science or a full Level 2 with a distinction profile and grades 9 – 4 in English & maths.

You will be assessed through a range of internally assessed units (written assignments, presentations, videos, case studies & projects), external assessed units (exam) and synoptic assessments (practicals).

During the course, there may be opportunities to achieve other qualifications in addition to your main programme and your Functional Skills. These additional qualifications may include drug awareness, first-aid, sport-specific coaching badges and other sport-related qualifications.

The sports department at Oaklands boasts an experienced, dedicated and knowledgeable team. All of the staff have experience of lecturing in sport and exercise sciences and other sport-related courses. In addition, we have a number of staff who represent their chosen sport both nationally and internationally, including at the Commonwealth Games and the Winter Olympics.

What Next?

This qualification is designed to support progression to employment after further study at University. However, it also supports you if you choose to progress directly to employment, as the transferable knowledge, understanding and skills will give you an advantage in applyingfor entry level roles or ‘school leaver’ industry training programmes and Higher Apprenticeships in areas such as sport and fitness training, coaching, and sports performance research.

Our Sports courses will help you get to the ceiling of your ability and this could be Regional, National or even International level competition. You could also progress to University or into direct employment.

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
