Level 3 National Foundation Diploma / Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism

Overview

The course aims to provide you with the specialist knowledge, understanding and skills required for entering a career in the
Industry or for continuing your studies into Higher Education. It is a broad based course covering a wide range of topics essential to the Tourism industries. This is a one year course that allows progression onto the Extended Diploma in the second year.

Course Content - What will I learn?

The course aims to provide you with a specialist qualification that focuses on the travel and tourism industry. The qualification covers a wide range of topics from tourist destinations, promotion and sales in travel and tourism, tourist guiding, the tourism opportunities available to visitors, being a holiday park host, how to organise conference and events and how to respond to emergencies in tourism destinations.

In the second year you will also have the opportunity to undertake a qualification in Introduction to Cabin Crew which is specifically designed for students who wish to work as cabin crew.

Am I right for the course?

You will need to have an interest in working with customers and be able to work as a part of a team, be motivated and have enthusiasm that will help you to communicate with visitors to promote an enjoyable experience during their holiday or visit.

Four GCSEs at Grade 4/ C or above, including English or a level 2 Diploma in Travel and Tourism.

Assessment is through a variety of methods. Formal written reports and assessments, multi choice papers, presentations, interviews and practical assessments are all used on this course.

The programme may involve an external trip yet to be confirmed. This may result in some additional cost to the student.

Teachers on the travel and tourism course have a great deal of industry and teaching experience.

What Next?

Progression routes are clear with options if you have an ambition to study Higher Education or take the route into employment perhaps through an apprenticeship in this or a related discipline.

Fees

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
