CRAFTS: 1-year Certificate of Achievement for Adults, Wednesdays 9.30 – 3.00
This new course is aimed at Adults (19+) who are interested in exploring a range of crafts with a contemporary perspective. The course will run on Wednesdays (09.30 15.00) over 25 weeks (term time only) starting 27th September 2023 and ending 5th June 2024.
Your tutor will provide you with supportive and encouraging feedback throughout the course. You will keep a record of your own progress and achievements by, for example, photographing your outcomes and reflecting on what you have learnt.
This course is part-funded and the total fee for the year is £360 for adults aged 24+. The course is free for those aged 24+ who are unemployed and on benefit or for those in employment on a low income. Students aged 19-23 should check with Admissions re Fee remission.
Course Content - What will I learn?
This interesting new course is suitable for all adults interested in trying a range of textile, print and paper-based crafts. We will explore constructed textile techniques including raffia-plaiting, 3D felt making and textile basketry, as well as surface pattern techniques such as tie-dye, heat transfer and block printing. Paper crafts will include papermaking, book-making and letterpress printing. You will be introduced to the work of contemporary practitioners to inspire and inform your own creative ideas.
All processes will be demonstrated and you will be guided and supported throughout the course by your tutor.
Am I right for the course?
If you like the idea of spending one day a week exploring a range of crafts, you will enjoy the opportunities to develop your skills in this new course. Suitable for complete beginners or those with some craft experience.

No previous experience required. All techniques will be taught from scratch.
Continuous Classroom assessment will take place based on Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement. Your tutor will observe your progress during the course and provide you with supportive and encouraging feedback.
You will be expected to keep a record of your own progress and achievements by, for example, photographing your outcomes and reflecting on what you have learnt. Your tutor will support and guide you through this.
All materials and equipment necessary to participate and complete the course will be provided. Should you choose to work with more expensive or large quantities of materials (eg silk instead of cotton), a materials fee will be charged.
Course Dates: 27/09/23 – 06/12/23 (Two-week half term: 25/10/23 & 1/11/23)
10/01/24 20/3/24 (Two-week half term: 14/2/24 & 21/2/24)
17/04/24 5/6/24 (One-week half term: 29/5/24)
You will be taught by a skilled teacher who has a relevant Arts Degree and a post-graduate Teaching Diploma. Your teacher will encourage and support you to enjoy and achieve throughout the course.

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.
For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.
Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.
