Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies – ICT

Overview

The Level 1 Introductory Diploma develops the skills and knowledge that you need for a career in IT, offering an introduction to the Level 2 and 3 courses.

Designed to meet the needs of today’s businesses, this hands-on, applied qualification gives you a chance to gain a nationally recognised vocational qualification and progress to employment or further education in the IT sector.

You will use Microsoft applications such as Powerpoint, Word and Excel as well as developing a web page, graphics and animation skills. You will also develop fundamental life skills, for example being organised, working with others, personal development planning and a requirement to improve your English and maths.

Course Content - What will I learn?

This course has been developed to give you the opportunity to engage in activities which are relevant to your ambitions regarding Information Technology and will provide you with opportunities to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in your working and academic life.

Am I right for the course?

You should have a keen interest in information technology and a career goal to work in the IT or related industry or progress on to a Level 2 course.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 – 1 or successful completion of an Entry Level programme.

Assessment is through a combination of internally assessed and externally verified coursework. There are no exams. You must pass all the units to achieve the qualifications; your overall grade will be determined by the average of all units studied.

Functional Skills: Integrated into your programme you will be able to work towards the ASDAN Employability Award at Entry 3 or Level 1 and a functional skill in either English, Mathematics or Information Technology.

Oaklands College has a team of highly qualified ICT teachers. We have experts in Microsoft software, as well as networking, programming and hardware installation. Most have come from the ICT and business industry and have a wealth of experience to share with you. They are supportive and motivational tutors who will do their best to make your time at Oaklands enjoyable, interesting and an excellent learning experience.

What Next?

If successful, you can progress onto further study at Level 2 and if successful then onto higher levels.

Successful completion of your chosen course could lead onto a higher level course, university or into employment.

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
