This short course, which is funded for 12 hours of learning, and will help you to revise the basics of maths and prepare for your Functional Skills Qualifications. Undertaking this course will shorten the study time on your full-qualification and you will be able to build on the basics you understand, instead or learning them at a time the maths becomes more complicated.
There are many units in the course, and you may feel that you do not need to undertake them all, which is acceptable. To see the elements included in this course please look at the “What Will I Learn Tab.”
The learning takes place online for this course and you will be tutor supported. The tutor will check you progress on a weekly basis and send out extra work if required.
Prior to starting this course, you will complete an Initial Assessment and Diagnostics to help us find your current level of understanding and allow us to build on this.

Course Content - What will I learn?

• During this course you will have the opportunity to cover:
• Non-calculator basic maths, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Place values.
• Calculating Decimals, Fractions and Percentages.
• Ratio.
• Measures including Length, Capacity and Mass.
• Working with Scale, in drawings and measurements.
• Area and Perimeter of shapes including parallelograms and triangles.
• Nets of shapes.
• Working with and reading data.
• Probability and outcomes.

Am I right for the course?

This course is open to anyone over the age of 19 at the start of the last academic year who is a resident in Hertfordshire.
On application you will be asked to complete an initial assessment which will identify the correct level for you to start at.

On completion of this course you will re-attempt your initial assessment and move on to a functional skills qualification.
