Floristry Designs for Improvers: Wed 1 May, 19:00-21:00

NEW! This six week course is for students who have previously completed the beginners course (or have previous experience with flower arranging) and want to expand and develop their floristry skills and knowledge further. You will:

1. Create a glued floral design – learn the different methods and techniques of gluing and creating a wrist corsage to wear.

2. Make a garland using different foliage’s – explore various methods of garlanding, useful design for decorating the home as a dinner table runner, on a staircase or mantlepiece.

3. Make a natural willow heart or circular Spring wreath with moss, using materials which will naturally dry to keep as a decoration in the home or garden.

4. Create a floral hand tied with a collar, discover how to spiral stems as well as create a unique modern collar to match.
5. Create an eco-friendly modern line arrangement for the home. Explore various methods of eco-friendly and recyclable mechanics, which you can experiment with further in class.

6. And finally make a Spring planted arrangement using, which is ideal for the garden or as a gift. We will combine bulbs, evergreens and Spring decorations in a woven basketÂ’

The tutor will demonstrate various arrangements, and then you can create your design to take home. Scissors and sundries will be provided. The cost of flowers are not included within the fee so you will be need to budget approximately £8-£15 per week.

Learn how to mix mortar, cutting bricks correctly and safely, identify queens closers, put this into practice and build an english bond wall.

The theme of the course is to revise and extend: Building on previous knowledge including shopping, eating out, booking theatre tickets, talking about work, giving directions, expressing likes and dislikes. You will revise the present tense, including key irregular verbs, saying what you are going to do, talking about things that happened in the past.

Prep for Intermediate German (Part C): Mon 15 Apr, 19:00-21:00

The focus is mainly on developing Speaking and Listening. You will acquire the ability to respond more flexibly to the complexities of situations through more detailed study or grammar and vocabulary. There will be some focus on reading through looking at public notices, tourist information leaflets, and adverts. There will also be some simple writing tasks such as filling in forms and writing simple letters and postcards.

Introduction to British Sign Language – [Click Enquire to Register Your Interest]

This 9 week non qualification course offers beginners a basic introduction to British Sign Language. It will provide the opportunity to learn some vocabulary together with an understanding of the differences between spoken and visual languages. The topics included the alphabet, colours, numbers and family members.

Due to closure periods there are no lessons on the 28 March, 4 & 11 April.

ESOL & Improving Communication Skills: Various Days/ Times in St Albans, Hatfield & Borehamwood.

This entry level course is for students where English is not their first language. You will develop or continue to develop your skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing, allowing you to communicate more confidently in everyday situations.

This course is 10 weeks long, each lesson is 2 hours and taught once a week.

Students will be expected to attend each week.

Once this course is completed you will then be able to progress to undertake unit awards at entry level in Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing.

Holiday Spanish: Wed 1 May, 19:00-21:00

Step by step into using a new language. Useful hints on study skills and language learning strategies. Learning key language element to understanding and talking basic Spanish. Includes: introducing yourself – name, nationality; greeting people appropriately; ordering drinks and snacks; shopping for simple items at the market; understanding numbers 0-100; express the time and days of the week; ask for and understand simple directions; book a room in a hotel and use public transport.
