Am I right for the course?

This course is for all learners 19 years old or over. You will need to be self motivated and interested in learning the language and culture of the Deaf Community. You will need some time to practise your BSL skills away from class and if you have contact with deaf people this will always be helpful.

Signature Level 1 Award is a 64 hour program leading to a nationally recognised qualification in BSL. You will learn to communicate in simple, everyday BSL with Deaf people on a range of topics. No prior experience or knowledge is required or expected. The course is two hours a week for the whole academic year so please ensure that you are able to commit to this length before enrolling.

The qualification consists of three units to pass, please be aware any retakes will be charged. Unit 1 is internally assessed whilst Units 2 and 3 are externally assessed. This will involve short recorded conversational situations involving your tutor using the vocabulary and situations you have been learning. If you need to retake an exam than a charge will be payable

You will be taught by a tutor who has a wealth of experience and knowledge about Deaf people and their culture.
