Develop your Potential in Literacy

Overview

Our literacy courses are designed to meet your individual needs and help you to achieve your aims. You will develop your skills in spelling, reading and writing and gain confidence in English.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will learn about punctuation, sentences and paragraphs, spelling strategies and proof reading. You will develop your reading and note making skills and find out about planning and writing a variety of documents including letters, emails and and summaries.
As well as reading and writing, the class will also do speaking and listening tasks which are useful in everyday life.

Am I right for the course?

Do you need to brush up your English?
Do you want to improve your reading, writing or spelling?
Would you like to move on at work?
Do you want to be able to help your children at school?
You will be able to learn at times to suit your lifestyle, with classes that run during the daytime and evening. You will be with other adults who are keen to learn in an informal and supportive environment

We will offer everyone a confidential interview and provide advice on the right course for you. You will be working at E2 and ready to progress to E3.

What about tests and exams?
Before the course you will be invited to do an initial assessment to find out your general level of skills in literacy. Once on course you will do diagnostic tasks to identify your strengths and areas for development so that you know what you need to work on in order to improve your skills and confidence. The course tutor will advise and support you in this and will prepare you to take a national qualification at Entry 3 or Level1. Before any exams you will have had lots of practice and tips on how to do the exams. We want you to be successful and enjoy your studies so that when you are ready to move on to another course or job you have the skills and the confidence to do so.

Students may join the course at different times of the year so if you miss the September start, let us know and we will arrange for you to begin classes as soon as there is a suitable place.

Who’ll be teaching me? Tutors on this course are Skills for Life specialists experienced in delivering literacy and English at all levels up to GCSEs and A-levels.
