Skills for Life Functional Skills English Entry 3 and Level 1 SA day
Am I right for the course?
Daytime courses are aimed at Entry 3 and Level 1 students.
If you do not have a Functional Skills English certificate at Entry 3, you will need to take our online initial and diagnostic assessment. You will also need to have an interview and do some writing.
You will need to achieve Entry 3 or Level 1 on the initial assessment and 45% on the diagnostic assessment to be considered for the course.
It is also very important that you are able to attend all of your lessons and do the required level of homework between your lessons. You need to seriously consider your work and family commitments, especially if you are thinking of doing both English and Maths.
All students work towards the Certificate in Functional Skill English at Entry 3 or Level 1 as appropriate.
All Speaking and Listening is assessed internally by your tutor and externally by a moderator from the exam board.
Entry 3 Reading and Writing assignments are paper based and assessed internally by your tutor in a less formal exam setting.
Level 1 Reading and Writing assignments can be paper based or online and are externally assessed by the exam board. These are taken in a formal exam setting.
Throughout the course your tutor will assess you informally through the completion of homework, online tasks and past papers.
After you complete Entry 3 or Level 1, you will take a diagnostic test to progress to the next level. You usually need to achieve 45% to progress to the next level.
Students who complete Level 1 can also progress to GCSE the following year.
16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.
