School leavers have variety with quality to match at Oaklands College. We offer courses ranging from Sports Studies and Business, to Electrical, Animal Care, and more.

The course will provide a solid base in a number of areas that can be applied to many careers and further study, not just within the sports and leisure industries. In addition, all students will study Functional skills or GCSE Maths and English.

The course involves a mixture of practical and classroom-based lessons and will support you to develop not only your knowledge within sport but develop your wider skills e.g. team work and building confidence.

ACL Computing - Short Courses

This short course will reintroduce you to the standard options available with Excel and then focus in on specific elements used in the workplace. This will include formulas – average, min, max, relative addressing, creating and amending charts, hiding worksheets, columns and rows, conditional formatting, functions, protecting workbook and invaluable tips and tricks.

ACL 65+ Project

This short 6-week course will provide you with the tools to protect yourself against fraud and cyber- crime when online. You will learn about accessing secure websites and understand what makes them a secure site, navigate shopping sites, how to create a secure password and staying safe online by identifying junk mail/ phishing emails, clearing history Cache, favourites and more.

ACL Business & Personal Development

When people are facing difficulties this course will provide tips on how to become resilient over 5 weeks. During the lessons we will cover the following: resilience overview – we will be exploring different definitions and why it is important. Building resilient skills – being equipped with personal strategies to try at work and at home. Identifying personal strengths and values – how you will build on these for resiliency. Improve your ongoing resilience – by building self care practises and creating your own personal resilience action plan.

ACL Cookery - Short Courses

Have you ever wondered how hotels and restaurants make their afternoon tea look and taste so spectacular? You can learn how with a professional pastry chef. Over the four week you will be taught how to make a variety of classic afternoon tea sweets. This will include plain and fruit scones, eclairs/ profiteroles, individual sponge cake, fruit tart with crème patisserie and mille feuille.

Students will gather and explore ideas for stories. Overview of structure including the six main areas of fiction (characters, dialogue, plot, conflict, background and emotion). Writing a character sketch, a first draft and a completed short story or flash fiction.
