If you’re interested in learning anything from basic woodworking to complex structural carcassing, then our Carpentry and Joinery Courses here at Oaklands are for you.

The construction industry is booming now with 200,000 new homes needed to keep up with demand.

With courses offered from Level 1 through to Level 3 our qualifications are aimed at people wishing to learn skills in carpentry and joinery, to progress on to becoming skilled in their chosen trade, or to progress through an apprenticeship and work towards becoming a master craftsman.

All of our full time programmes include opportunities to support and enhance your learning so that you can achieve your goals and ambitions. Students enrol on a Study Programme which individualises their education whilst enhancing their employability skills. A Study programme is made up of four key elements which includes a main vocational qualification, the development of English and maths through the study of GCSE’s or Functional Skills, Work-related learning through work experience and Personal Development Reviews.

Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry

There are 8 units practical/theory to be achieved within the Level 3 Tech Cert qualification ranging from building methods & construction technology, complex structural carcassing, transportable machinery, quantities & communication & information, safe working practices, maintaining structural & non structural components. Units are assessed by on line multiple choice tests. Additionally there is an end of year on line Gola knowledge test.There is an 18 hour practical synoptic phase test. Also as part of the course you will be expected to do Both English & Maths Level 2 Functional skills.

This is a part time course covering one year. The level 2 Diploma site carpentry is available at the Smallford Campus. This course is designed to give learners their first experiences and insite into site carpentry. The aim of the course is to put in place all the basic rudimentary skills and knowledge that is required to become a good site carpenter. It consists of 3 core units: know how to carry out safe working practices, Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others 2, knowledge of building methods and construction technology 2. There are 5 trade Units: First fixing operations, Second fixing, Erect structursl carcassing, Carry out maintenance, set up & operate Circular saw. All Theory is Practically assessed and supported with Assignments. On completion of the practical work there is a 18 hour synoptic test to be passed.

This is a full time course covering one year. The level 1 Diploma carpentry & Joinery is available at the Smallford Campus. This course is designed for those learners with no previous carpentry knowledge or training. The aim of the course is to put in place all the basic rudimentary skills and knowledge that is required to become a good carpenter. It consists of 3 core units: know how to carry out safe working practices; Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others; knowledge of building methods and construction technology. There are 3 trade Units: Basic woodworking joints, Maintain and use handtools, Prepare and use portable power tools. All Theory is Practically assessed and supported with Assignments. On completion of the practical work there is a 15 hour synoptic test to be passed.

This is a full time course covering one year. The level 2 Diploma Bench Joinery is available at the Smallford Campus. This course is designed to give learners their first experiences or expand on previous experiences in Bench Joinery. The aim of the course is to put in place all the skills and knowledge that is required to become a good Bench Joiner. It consists of 3 core units: know how to carry out safe working practices, Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others 2, knowledge of building methods and construction technology 2. There are 4 trade Units: Know how to produce setting out details for routine Joinery products,Know how to mark setting out details for routine Joinery products , Know how to manufacture Joinery products, set up & operate Circular saw. All Theory is Practically assessed and supported with Assignments. On completion of the practical work there is a 18 hour synoptic test to be passed.
