Apprenticeships - Advanced Apprenticeship in Plumbing Level 3

The course begins every September and lasts for 2 years. It is delivered one day per week at college, the remaining four days you will attend work. You will study towards an Apprenticeship Framework at Level 3. Qualifications include: NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating Level 3 Functional Skills Maths Level 2 Functional skills English Level 2 Functional Skills ICT Level 1 Employment Rights and Responsibilities (If you have already achieved your Functional skills as part of your Level 2 Apprenticeship you will be exempt if they are still within 5 years)

What are the Course Requirements?

This course is designed for people working in the Plumbing industry that are already qualified to NVQ Level 2. You must be suitably employed and have access to experience a range of different Plumbing systems, such as Hot & Cold water and Central Heating. You need to be able to evidence planning, supervising and commissioning a range of Plumbing installations and maintenance. You will need to show an aptitude to achieve Level 2 Maths and English if you have not already done so within the last 5 years. If you choose the Gas pathway you must be working with a Gas Safe Registered engineer. You must gain documented experience working on gas boilers and pipework, installing, servicing and maintenance.

Course Content - What will I learn?

NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating Level 3 Content: Theory Topics: Organising Resources, Complex Cold Water, Complex Hot Water, Central Heating, Sanitation and Electrical, Domestic Gas. Practical Topics: Gas practical assessments, Complex Hot and Cold Water assessments, Sanitation and Central Heating, Electrical.

How will I be assessed?

Success in the NVQ Diploma will be based upon demonstrating practical competence in the workplace and workshop (2 portfolios) and passing underpinning knowledge exams for each theory module. On the Gas route you will undertake ISA practical assessments in the college and build an extra Gas portfolio of evidence from the workplace. You will also have specific Gas exams. You will be observed in the workplace by a Plumbing and Gas Assessor.

Most of your training is carried out at your place of work through an Individual Learning Plan. This is designed to provide you with the support, supervision and work-based mentoring you will need.

An assessor will work alongside you and your employer to monitor your progress against nationally recognised qualifications within your vocational area. This ensures that while your needs – and those of your employer – are being met at a local level, the qualifications you gain meet the highest national standards.

Assessors also visit you at your workplace to see how you are putting your developing skills into practice on the job.

Classes will be taught by experienced professionals who will ensure you develop your technical knowledge and key skills.
