Access to Higher Education - Access to HE - Nursing

The Access to HE course is a nationally recognised qualification by the Higher Education Sector and is awarded through Gateway. Alongside relevant vocational units you will have the opportunity to develop your study skills, ICT and units in Science based subjects including chemistry and biology and the Social Sciences of Psychology. At the end of the year you will undertake a research project. You will also attend tutorials where you will have the opportunity to gain further accreditation in examination skills and portfolio building. Your tutor will assist you in applying to university through UCAS.

What are the Course Requirements?

At least a one year break from education and initial assessments results at Level 2 in English and Maths. In addition an interview with an Access to HE tutor will be required. You must also have a GCSE Grade C in English or Mathematics at entry and be willing to undertake the other alongside your programme.

Am I right for the course?

The Access to HE Nursing course is designed for those whose primary aim is to progress to university and study Nursing. The course is a one year full time programme

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a variety of graded assignments at the end of every unit. You will also be required to undertake some assessments in an examination setting. The credits are tracked and accumulate towards the building of a portfolio.

Course Additionality

It is recommended that you engage in at least 20 hours of work experience in your chosen field during the year to support your application to university. If you do not hold GCSE Maths or English at Grade C you will be required to undertake these alongside the course.

What Next

The course is very popular and an early application is advisable in order to avoid disappointment. As part of the interview process you will be required to undertake an initial assessment and also an interview task.

Our Access courses will prepare you for entry to university. A particular feature of our courses is the development of successful learning skills and the ability to work independently.

Our tutors work hard to challenge students and offer individual support tailored to help prepare them for university. You will be taught be a team of highly qualified lecturers that possess a wide range of knowledge and experience to help you to develop in your chosen Access pathway.

On completing the Access course many of our students will continue their education at the University of Hertfordshire. Others choose to go further afield and continue their studies at various universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
