EDSV Ladies have secured their first piece of silverware by being crowned league champions after a 8-0 home win against Easton & Otley.

In just three years, the girls programme has experienced exceptional growth and shifted from Category 2 to 1, the toughest division in college football.

After a fantastic start to the season winning their first five games, excitement and belief crept into the girls. Alongside an excellent league run the girls also qualified into the Quarter Finals of the National Cup, which they narrowly lost 2-1 to the current National Champions, Birmingham. The girls finished their league run-in winning 6 from 7, and were crowned Champions with a 12 point lead.

Manager Leigh Nicol said “At the beginning of the season the league title seemed completely out of reach, a newly promoted team wouldn’t expect to win the league. However the attitude the girls have shown through the year, the consistency they have provided within training and matches showed that they were more than capable of competing in the league.

“I am absolutely delighted with winning the league and I believe that the girls reap the rewards that they have worked so hard all season for. Since winning the league, their attitude to get back into training and prepare for national play offs has been truly humbling. They have set the standard high for next year, and it’s our job to maintain and even top everything we have achieved this year. ”
In spite of their latest win, the girls still have eyes on the prize as they now look ahead to the National play offs, which could see them crowned the Champions of England.

The EDSV youth teams are growing too –back again this coming half term with the popular Football Fun Camp which in February entertained over five kids with fun games, matches and an inflatable tournament. Anyone interested in booking a space should visit http://edsvacademy.com/
