Apprentice students were joined by Level 2 and 3 Electrical Installation students in welcoming multidisciplinary professional engineering Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as well as representatives from electronics company Epson to the college today.

Students were given the opportunity to hear from industry experts, including an informative presentation from Senior Engineer Technical Regulations professional, Steven Devine IEng MIET.

Steven, who has put together an informative, student-friendly guide on how to conform with safety legislation and wiring regulations, discussed with students the best practice in order to maintain a safe and professional working environment.

Students also learnt about the importance of studying for further qualifications, alongside their diploma and apprenticeship programmes.

Steven shared his experience with students and spoke about the employability and salary benefits which are associated to having a further qualification, such as an IEng (Incorporated Engineer) or MIET (Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology).

Students were given the opportunity to compete for one of the student handbooks, which were won by Level 3 Electrical Apprentice George Marston and Level 3 Electrical Installation students Kieran Bester and Rudie Niemand.

The students walked away with copies of the handbook, as well as a brand new state-of-the-art professional labelling printer, provided by Epson, in order to maintain and meet industry standards when labelling up individual jobs and completed work stations.
