Fashion students volunteer in local charity shops

Fashion students from Oaklands volunteered their time and expertise to Willow’s charity shops in Hemel Hempstead and Welwyn Garden City. 

The students spent time helping in the shops, where they dressed the mannequins and even modelled some of the outfits in the shop windows to help raise the profile of Willow, a charity that provides special days out for seriously ill people, and to demonstrate the hidden gems that can be found in charity shops. 

The budding fashionistas also created their own outfits for items they found in the shops that replicated current catwalk trends including monochrome, bold patterns, floral and denim, and outfits ideal for the festival season. 

Sarah Easterby, Oaklands’ fashion co-ordinator, said: “Willow is an amazing charity which caught the attention of my students instantly from the first introduction. Everyone at the store were so accommodating, allowing the students to take over. I am very proud of my students and hope what they did today helped support all that Willow does.” 

Nicole White, Willow Shop Manager, said: “It’s been a pleasure to work with the students and tutors at Oaklands College. They’ve been really enthusiastic about the fashion challenge and created some great eye-catching outfits for the windows.”
