Former Horticulture student sows seeds of victory

Former student Kevin O'Neill has been awarded a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence.

A former Horticulture student is celebrating his growing achievements after being awarded a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence.

Kevin O’Neill, who completed the Level 3 Diploma in Work-Based Horticulture at the College, received his medal in recognition of his outstanding performance while studying his course.

Kevin, who is Deputy Head Greenkeeper at Muswell Hill Golf Club in North London, will be awarded his medal and certificate at a glittering ceremony later this year.

“I’m very pleased with the award as you can imagine. I put a lot of work into completing the Level 3 and to get further recognition is obviously pleasing. As for my career going forward, I want to continue to learn and expand my knowledge and hopefully one day become a golf course manager,” said Kevin.

This is not the first time that Kevin’s hard work has been rewarded – last year he was named Toro Student Greenkeeper of the Year.

Andy Wight, the College’s Head of Department of Landbased Work Based Learning: “We are really proud of Andy for this achievement. He was a determined and hardworking student and he also has great ambition. He will no doubt go far in the future and we wish him all the best.”
