This week, Foundation Degree Early Years students finished and delivered their final pieces of work for their degree units.

Students were required to produce mood-boards and displays, highlighting their visits to a variety of placement settings such as nurseries, schools and playgroups, delivering their findings in a final celebration of their success before finishing their studies.

The group of fifteen students, whom many of which will progress to study a year top-up BA degree at the University of Hertfordshire, showcased the very best of their work to friends, family, fellow students and teaching teams across Oaklands College.

The students, who specialized in 45 placement settings across London, Essex and the South East of Hertfordshire, were able to present their findings in the final assessment, worth 40% of their assignment weighting.

Foundation Degree student in Early Years Tarnya O’Brien said; “I loved studying at Oaklands College and am going to miss my tutors and fellow students. I originally came to Oaklands after finishing my first year through Open University, but came to Oaklands for the support networks and classroom environments.”

Tarnya added; “The support networks were so much stronger than what I had experienced previously, my tutor gave me the confidence and skills to develop and throughout my course I have progressively improved, I couldn’t have achieved this without the support of Lizzie Byers!”

Early Years Programme Manager Elisabeth (Lizzy) Byers said; “All of our students have worked exceptionally hard over the course of this two year programme, it has been fantastic to see the development of some of our students who had initially lacked confidence in their own ability.

Some of our students wanted to progress straight into employment after qualifying, however they are now determined to achieve their BA top-up at the University of Hertfordshire.”
