Graphic design students have been recognised for their valuable input in shaping marketing for a local rail line in St Albans at a recent national awards ceremony for the industry.

BTEC Level 2 students in Graphic Design were involved in a live brief last academic year which saw them create an advertising  campaign for the Abbey Line Community Rail, which has a stop in St Albans at the bottom of Holywell Hill.  This year their designs may well come to life on the local rail line as the company look at the possibility of taking them forward for a future campaign.

The live brief project won second place out of eight nominations in the ‘Involving Children and Young People’ category at the ACoRP Community Rail Awards – a national celebration of innovation and progress in the community rail sector.

The students were tasked with creating advertising campaigns that raised awareness of the Abbey Community Line and encourage more people to use it.

After presenting their designs to Abbey Line Community Rail Officer Val Male, the students got the opportunity to present their ideas to London Midland. The Abbey Line Steering Group is now considering one of the student’s campaigns entitled ‘Abbey Days out’ for further development.

After their presentation last February, the students were praised for the professional standard of work they had delivered and their professional approach in answering questions in the presentations.

Edna Woname, Abbey Line CRP Officer said ‘It was great to see the students work so hard to come out with such fantastic ideas. I am particularly glad that our work as a Partnership has been recognised once again and grateful for the continued support of our passengers, volunteers, Rail user group and members of the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership’.
